Clive McDade was a cheerful, gentle person with a gilded voice and a colourful vocabulary. After one or two cool ones, he was quick to use his golden vocals in song. Possessing a congenital foot problem, he walked with a limp. This did not prevent him from from army service or from playing golf. On one occasion at Oxley Golf Club, he was carried prostrate from the course because he neglected to duck when a “Fore!” ball escaped from a nearby fairway.Clive, Joan and family did the hard yards around the state and his last assignment was a District Inspector position in Brisbane West Region. Ray saluted the many talents of Clive at his farewell on 29 October, 1979.
CLIVE McDADE
[Tune: "Edelweiss"]
Clive McDade, Clive McDade,
When his voice he upraises,
We are graced with the chaste
Flawless taste of his phrases.
Pure is the style he will not defile
Of the tongue he’s mastered:
By my troth, SANGUINE oath!
He’s a right proper GENTLEMAN!
[Tune: "Belle of New York"]
Oh, he is the cock of the walk -
The subject of envious talk -
For never will problem now
Hobble or nobble ‘im now
Carefree in air free of chalk.
He chips and he putts for his par;
The nineteenth is not very far;
What joy we will know like him
When we can crow like him,
He is the cock of the walk!
[Tune: "Keep the Home Fires Burning"]
Cheer the man retiring
From the line of firing,
Though we hope he’ll miss
The troops who onward strive,
There’s a silver lining -
That’s his SUPER shining -
Just don’t wear the golf course out
Till we join you, Clive!
